About the Fund
The Untold Story Fund was created to give diverse voices and perspectives the ability to find and tell amazing stories. Through this, we hope we can create unique opportunities for new and emerging filmmakers and storytellers.
The fund is aimed at addressing systemic barriers and opportunity gaps that we know are present in our industry. The fund is open to emerging documentary filmmakers who are Black, Indigenous, persons of colour, those with visible and non visible disabilities, and/or are LGBTQ+.
Currently, this program is open to storytellers in Eastern Ontario. Our hope is that over time, we’re able to invest in and support storytellers from Coast to Coast.
We also want to acknowledge that this program isn’t perfect, but we hope to put our best intentions forward in an effort to learn, to grow the filmmaking community, and to create opportunities for storytellers who may not have got to explore their project otherwise.

You can directly help storytellers, filmmakers, and creators bring their stories to life. 100% of your donation goes directly into the granting portion of the fund, so it will go to the storytellers themselves.
The Details
The fund is aimed at supporting short documentary projects of 3 to 20 minutes in length.
The grant will consist of:
1) $5,000
2) $25,000 equipment rental credit (from our Rental List)
3) Three days of production from our crew (Creative Director, Cinematographer, Producer) if you would like it, as well as mentorship from our Editor.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be:
A Canadian citizen or permanent resident
An emerging storyteller with three or fewer audio-visual credits
Be at least one of the Priority Groups: Black, Indigenous, persons of colour, those with visible and non visible disabilities, and/or LGBTQ+.
Application Requirements:
An application must be completed and submitted electronically to hello @ untoldstorytelling dot com, with the subject line “Untold Story Fund Application” on or before the deadline. There is no application fee. All materials received by Untold Storytelling are considered confidential, and we take no ownership or copyright of anything you submit to us.

Selection Process:
Applications that are deemed complete will be submitted to a Review Panel made up of representatives of Untold Storytelling, and members of the filmmaking and arts community including representatives from the Priority Groups.
Decision Criteria:
Projects will be evaluated based on feasibility, production ability, and fit with our mandate to support emerging storytellers.
