Agnes Etherington Arts Centre

Located on the campus of Queen’s University, the Agnes Etherington Arts Centre is a remarkable place.

The centre is a research-driven art museum featuring innovative exhibitions and year-round programming and holds some unique and world-renowned historical and contemporary art.

We’ve worked on many projects with the Agnes to bring some of that research and art to life, through engaging and intentional storytelling.

Awareness

Brand Film

In 2017 the Agnes came to us with a unique challenge. They wanted to better communicate what happened inside the centre, in a way that didn’t feel like how a traditional museum or arts centre would.

We set out to elevate the visuals of the art centre, adding a lot more dynamic movement and an edit pacing that drew in not only a traditional art audience but a younger generation as well.

Affinity

Agnes Collects (Series)

The Agnes has one of the largest collections of Dutch art in Canada, including several original works of Rembrandt.

As such, they wanted to share the stories and interpretations of some of the unique pieces, from those who study the works. This is the Agnes Collects series.

Action

Rembrandt’s Leiden: Yesterday and Today

In commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the death of Rembrandt van Rijn, the Agnes created an exhibition titled: Leiden circa 1630: Rembrandt Emerges.

The exhibit would focus on the early years of Rembrandt’s career. A time in his career that has been recognized as one of daring experimentation.

Bader Curator and Researcher of European Art Dr. Jacquelyn N. Coutré gave us the challenge of creating this short documentary to reflect on what Leiden would have been like in the 1600s, and how the city looks to the future today.

Awareness

Who was Agnes Etherington?

Sometimes a building or a project sells the rights to its name. But in the case of the Agnes Etherington Arts Centre, its namesake had a much deeper connection.

The Agnes asked us if we could help tell the story of the history behind the art centre’s name. Who was Agnes Etherington, and why was the arts centre named after her.
